Putting up the Christmas tree conundrum...

how early is too early?

My mother always told us the story of her childhood when there was no sign of Christmas in her home until Christmas day.  Her and her siblings were not permitted to come downstairs on Christmas morning until my grandma put a Christmas record on the gramophone and called for them.

The tree would be up and and decorated with real candles blazing, wrapped gifts, and a fabulous Christmas breakfast.

Seriously - how do you put real candles on a Christmas tree?

Anyhoo, there was an article at Daily Mail today about people putting their trees as early as August.  Good grief.

The weekend before Christmas used to be my usual time to put up the tree since we leave it up until Epiphany (January 6) when the Wise Men finally showed up to praise God because like most men they refused to ask for directions - or something.

Last week I was looking at my calendar and decided to put the tree up on the weekend after Thanksgiving.  Even though I've massively scaled back on the decorations (yay) and now own a much smaller tree (yay again), it still takes time.

I think everyone should do whatever pleases them.

What do you think?
